Unexpected Treasure

I love going to the gym and hanging out to get my WOD or lift in for the day with my peeps after work, but it’s days like today I enjoy the most being outside.  Getting out to hike, bike or take a long run let’s me see the world in a whole new perspective, a slower, not in a rush to get there kind of view. It allows me to actually see my surroundings and take in the beauty, actually see what is in front of me. It’s not often I have the opportunity to slow down, but when I do, mostly on the weekends, I try to take full advantage and find time to explore some how, some way. I constantly look for new routes, new trails, new roads and new ways to get in my cardio and still have fun. This week I had a few days off for fall break, the weather has been fabulous so I took complete advantage of this opportunity… dropped the gym and hit the great outdoors to see what the world had to offer.

This trip would not disappoint me. I jumped on the road bike and headed out. I saw a lot of beautiful countryside along the thirty mile trek I was making. It was a brand new route never before had I biked it. I had no idea what was in store for my day when I left, but I was looking forward to whatever lie ahead on such a gorgeous day. Little did I know this trip was about to give me more than I had bargained for. I  was seeing some beautiful farm land and rolling country side along the way that was breath-taking this time of year. The weather was perfect and I was close to my turn around point to head back, content with a nice ride, when I noticed a sign, “Auchumpkee Creek Covered Bridge.” Curiosity got the best of me so I turned off my main route and took a chance that it would be close, within a mile or two or I would turn around (for safety purposes). I got lucky. Approximately a mile down the little side road I found it, my unexpected treasure!

What a delightful sight on a beautiful day. I hopped off my bike, walked around and soaked it all in enjoying this treat. After inspecting it and taking lots of photos on my handy iPhone, I promised to come back on another day with a real camera.

The best exercise in the world is exercise that doesn’t feel like work. This little nugget I found made my day seem easier and lighter as I peddled back, headed for home. I love when this happens… these little treasures along the way..all seemed right with the world and my exercise didn’t feel like work; it felt like fun:) It was a good day and I am thankful for all the unexpected little treasures God gives me!
